The Washington State Department of Labor and Industries said it is offering free credit monitoring to employers and employees involved in claims made with the regional office in Tukwila, Washington, after hard drives were stolen from the office during a recent break-in.
The hard drives contained agency files with personally identifiable information of people who have had business with that specific regional office. The information includes Social Security numbers, email addresses, birthdates, financial or payment account numbers and, in some cases, medical or health insurance information.
“L&I has no indication the stolen hard drives or the information on them has been used in any way, and the data is not accessible without considerable effort and technical knowledge, but the agency is taking several precautionary steps,” the department said.
In addition to activating a call center to field questions, L&I is offering credit monitoring to those who have filed a complaint or question with the Tukwila office, were involved as a witness or subject in a case with the office or had other business with it.
