High Ability Networking and Professional Development Opportunities
Wednesday, May 11, 3 to 4 p.m. ET
The Education Service Centers of Indiana are continuing their collaboration with the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) to provide additional opportunities to anyone who has a role in identifying, educating, testing, administering programming, or writing grants related to high ability. During these High Ability Network events, participants will have an opportunity to learn from a featured guest speaker and have an opportunity to connect in smaller, focused, breakout rooms.
Our May networking event will take place on Wednesday, May 11, from 3 to 4 p.m. ET. where we will be joined by Dr. Lori Desautels who will present on Anxiety in HA learners. Register through the following link:
June In-Person Workshops
The Student Pathways High Ability division will be traveling to four Education Service Center locations to deliver in-person teacher workshops. During each session, participants will receive instructional tools and practices to assist in creating interdisciplinary differentiation of curriculum and instruction. National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC)
NAGC21 Encore On-Demand Learning Opportunities Available through Tuesday, May 31
NAGC21 Encore extends access to on-demand learning with hundreds of professional learning presentations. If you participated in NAGC21 this past November, you already have access and can log in to NAGC21 Encore with your original credentials. For those who did not attend the conference, click here to register.
Achieving Equity in Advanced Placement Workshops
The College Board in collaboration with the IDOE is offering free Achieving Equity in Advanced Placement (AP) Workshops to interested local education agencies (LEAs). These workshops will take place at eight locations across the state for teams of three to five teachers or administrators from a school or district to explore how to create an AP Program devoted to improving access in advanced academics for students from all populations. Summer Programs
The Purdue Gifted Education Research and Resource Institute is offering two summer enrichment programs for K-12 students: Super Summer and the Summer Residential Program. Financial aid is available for each program.
HIGH ABILITY PROGRAM (HAP) GRANT
2021-2022 HAP Grant
All 2021-2022 (FY22) HAP Grant funds MUST be requested by Wednesday, June 15, to ensure access to these funds. Please include the recent reallocation when submitting the cash request form.
Please note the following important dates for the 2021-2022 grant cycle:
- Thursday, September 15: Amendment Deadline
- Friday, September 30: Encumbrance Deadline
- Thursday, December 15: Expenditure Deadline
- Saturday, December 31: Final Report Due
2022-2023 HAP Grant
On Friday, May 13, the IDOE will be releasing the Local Education Agency (LEA) formula allocations from the Gifted and Talented appropriation in the Indiana biennial budget.
In order to qualify as a program for high ability students as indicated in Indiana Administrative Code (511 IAC 6-9.1-2), each applicant must provide updated program plans for review. These program plans are to align with the strategic vision and mission of the LEA and are to be monitored for implementation and continuous improvement by a broad-based planning committee comprised of diverse stakeholders (IC 20-36-2-2 and 511 IAC 6-9.1-2, Sec.2, (e)). The following plans are required:
- Multifaceted Identification Plan
- Curriculum and Instruction Plan
- Guidance and Counseling Plan
- Professional Development Plan
- Program Evaluation Plan
Please use the High Ability Program Evaluation which has recommended best practices to assist in updating these plans.
Please note the following important 2022-2023 grant release and application dates:
- Friday, May 13: Release of allocations
- Wednesday, June 1: Application Opens
- Friday, July 1: Application Deadline
