PG&E sued over claims the utility was responsible for the Mosquito Fire

Fire officials say the cause of the fire is still under investigation

TY: A LAWSUIT HAS BEEN FILED AGAINST P.G.&E. IT CLAIMS THE UTILITY WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE MOSQUITO FIRE IN PLACER AND EL DORADO COUNTIES. WHICH IS STILL BURNING. HOWEVER, THE U.S. FOREST SERVICE SAYS THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE IS STILL BEING INVESTIGATED. THE LAWSUIT WAS FILED IN SAN FRANCISCO SUPERIOR COURT. IT CLAIMS THE FIRE WAS STARTED BY PG AND D’S, POORLY MAINTAINED UTILITY STRUCTURE. THE SUIT WAS FILED ON BEHALF OF BOTH PLACER AND EL DORADO COUNTIES. WE SPOKE WITH THE ATTORNEY, ABOUT WHY THEY FILED WITHOUT AN OFFICIAL CAUSE. >> THEY’RE NOT GOING TO WRITE A REPORT UNTIL THEY GET ALL THE EVIDENCE ARE CONFIDENT IN CONCLUSION. THE WAY THAT WE DO IT IS DIFFERENT, WE HAVE TO HAVE PROBABLE CAUSE TO BELIEVE PG&E STARTED FIRE. ONCE WE DO, THEN WE CAN FILE SUIT AND GET ABILITY TO USE SUBPOENA POWER AND FIND OUT EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED. >> IN A STATEMENT PGAND E ALSO POINTED OUT THAT CAL FIRE AND THE U.S. FOREST SERVICE HAVEN’T DETERMINED THE CAUSE. IT SAID IN PART, WE REMAIN FOCUSED ON REDUCING WILDFIRE RISK ACROSS OUR SERVICE AREA AND ARE COMMITTED TO DOING EVERYTHING WE CAN TO KEEP OUR CUSTOMERS AND COMMUNITIES SAFE. TY: THE U.S. FOREST SERVICE, IS NOW MANAGING THE EFFORTS TO CONTAIN THE MOSQUITO FIRE. STUMPY MEADOWS IS THE ONLY AREA STILL UNDER EVACUATION WARNINGS. THE FIRE HAS BURNED 76 THOUSAND ACRES. IT’S 60% CONTAINE

PG&E sued over claims the utility was responsible for the Mosquito Fire

Fire officials say the cause of the fire is still under investigation

A lawsuit against Pacific Gas and Electric Company is alleging that the utility was responsible for the Mosquito Fire burning in Placer and El Dorado Counties. The lawsuit was filed in San Francisco Superior Court and claims the Mosquito Fire was ignited by PG&E’s “poorly maintained utility structure.”The complaint was filed on behalf of those in both counties impacted by the blaze. “PG&E continues to act negligently and has been responsible for more than 1,500 fires across the states leading to deaths, property destruction, financial burdens, and ruined lives because of their poorly maintained utility equipment,” the litigation firm Singleton Schreiber said in a press release. However, the United States Forest Service told KCRA 3 that the cause of the fire is still under investigation, and there are no new updates about the cause of the fire. PG&E released the following statement on Friday saying they "remain focused on reducing wildfire risk across our service area.""PG&E’s most important responsibility is the safety of our customers and the communities we serve. We are grateful for Cal Fire and the U.S. Forest Service for their work in containing the fire. Cal Fire and the U.S. Forest Service have not made a determination on the cause of the fire. We remain focused on reducing wildfire risk across our service area, and are committed to doing everything we can to keep our customers and communities safe," the statement read. The Mosquito Fire sparked on Sept. 6 on Mosquito Road and Oxbow Reservoir, east of Foresthill. The blaze also prompted evacuations across Placer and El Dorado counties. All the evacuations have since been lifted. As of Friday, the Mosquito Fire had burned 76,781 acres and was 60% contained.
