Ashton Pittman

News Editor Ashton Pittman rose to national acclaim as the Jackson Free Press State Reporter for his multi-award-winning coverage of Mississippi’s 2018 U.S. Senate special election, which drove headlines across the country and kicked off a nationwide conversation about the legacy of segregation academies. Ashton has been published in a number of prominent national and international publications, including The Guardian, The New York Times and NBCThink. He has made appearances on several TV and radio programs on MSNBC, NPR and BBC World Radio for his political reporting. Ashton is an alumnus of the University of Southern Mississippi, where he studied journalism, photojournalism and political science. A South Mississippi native, he lives with his husband, William, and their two pit bulls, Dorothy and Dru.
