NEW SENS Dates 2023

The IDOE will now be streamlining all standards during the 2023-24 school year by 25% with 33% of the remaining standards identified as priority. This will include the upcoming new standards for science and civics. Details in the link.

Science of Reading

NEW: EARLY LITERACY CADRE
  • NEED: A clear need for early literacy mapping, training, and general support has been identified.
  • RESPONSE:  NIESC/NWIESC will start an Early Literacy Cadre. We will meet virtually to begin with and together as needed. We won't start the meetings with much of an agenda but will instead have general topics that we open up to discussions, sharing of resources, and planning.
  • AUDIENCE: Anyone who works with K-2 curriculum mapping, literacy coaching, Dyslexia, etc.
  • GOALS: Let's work together to share resources, create resources together, develop relationships with peers, and support our teachers.LOGISTICS: We will kick off the cadre January 13, 2023 at 10:00 EST. Future meeting dates and times will be determined by the group during the kick off.

Are you ready to learn about using Multi-Sensory Approaches in Phonics Instruction for the K-2 classroom (or during intervention)? While utilizing The Orton-Gillingham Educators' Guide, we will discover & discuss the fundamentals of multi-sensory instruction. Educators will leave understanding the purpose behind visual and blending drills, the basic rules of language, & the purpose of assessment to guide instruction for students to succeed. This session will utilize multiple resources for phonics instruction while also allowing teachers to share their ideas and/or strategies.  Teachers will leave with a toolbox of tips to quickly implement during their literacy block!

Indiana High Ability Network

I am proud of the work the Educational Service Centers of Indiana has done to create and grow the statewide high ability network, and I am excited to share that beginning in January 2023, the IDOE High Ability Network meetings will have a new format! The IDOE Student Pathways & Opportunities Team will begin hosting the webinars monthly on Microsoft Teams.

The IDOE, as new leaders, will continue to offer monthly updates and host high ability experts to provide professional development on monthly topics.

Additionally, the IDOE will highlight exemplar high ability programs throughout the State of Indiana by allowing High Ability Coordinators to share their own program goals, best practices, and successes! If you are interested in sharing your program during a future meeting, please contact them at studentpathways_highability@doe.in.gov.

The content in the tool linked above is not newly developed content, but is DIRECTLY pulled from the NGSS Lesson Screener and EQuIP tools. The tool is designed to serve as a starting point for educators to use to decide if they would like to further analyze an instructional resource. They are not intended to be used as a comprehensive analysis, like the EQuIP rubric and process. Thank you to Amanda McCammon for creating and sharing the resource.

The annual textbook caravan for the 2022-23 school year will feature resources for health and science. The event is free and open to all. Choose from Avalon Manor, Merrillville on January 19 or Swan Lake, Plymouth on January 24th.

Sessions offered include: K-5/6 Science, 6-8 Science, Biology, Chemistry/Physics/AP (morning) – 6-12 Health (afternoon), Supplemental/Intervention

 

A free virtual professional development will take place on January 18, 2023, from 4:00-5:00 pm EST. "Strengthening MTSS: Tier 2 Behavioral Services and Supports" This event will be facilitated by Tiffany Creager. This session will be recorded, and the recording will be shared with all who register, whether you attend live or not.
