We at Families as Allies offer a huge shout-out to Hinds County Youth Court and Judge Carlyn Hicks for hosting a back-to-school Family Resource Academy this Thursday, August 3rd, from 3 to 5 p.m. at 940 East McDowell Road in Jackson.

This event is for all Hinds County families, not just those involved in youth court. We are excited to be a part of the event. We will be there to advocate with families who have questions such as:

  • How do I get appropriate services for my child at school?
  • How do I know if my child might need an IEP or 504 plan?
  • How do I request an evaluation?
  • What do I do if the school isn’t following my child’s IEP or 504 plan?
  • What are my child’s and family’s rights if the school told me to get mental health services or an outside evaluation for my child and not bring my child back until I do?
  • What options do I have if I have a dispute with the school district about special education services?

Please come out on Thursday, August 3rd, from 3 to 5 p.m. to learn more about resources and support for all Hinds County families. You can call 601-985-3000 for more information.
